I'm from Omaha, Nebraska — a mid-tier city in the middle of America. Back there, I was the hometown hero. Won awards, had my own club, did a big NYE send-off party at a theatre before I left.

But in Adelaide? I didn't go to school with anyone. I've got no crowd. No scene clout. Nobody really cares about all that stuff I did.

And that's absolutely perfect.

Why? Because I get to do whatever I want. However I want. Whenever I want. No more expectations.

See, at 42, I'm an elder Millennial with deep crates, no interest in chasing hype, and full of music stories.

I've taken Ron Trent record hunting. Spent 6 hours driving Kevin Yost to a gig after a flight got cancelled. Went pizza shop hopping around Brooklyn with Nickodemus before a set at the late-great Cielo. Even got to shake Frankie Knuckles' hand.

Name-dropping can be fun. But what’s more fun is bringing people joy on a dance floor. Connecting people through music. Helping them to shake off stress and trauma through movement.

In those moments, it’s not about who you know or TikTok followers. The only thing that matters is … are people having a good time?
